FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

The Answers You Need

I WANT EXTENSIONS, WHATS NEXT?

Maayan recommends an extension consultation if you are thinking about getting extensions. When you come in, she will determine what type is best for your needs and how many packs you may need. From there, you order the hair through the salon. There are three different types that she offers. Tape-in, I-Tip, and Volume Weft. All hair is reusable up to 4 times if maintained well, and touch ups are recommended every 6-8 weeks depending on hair growth speed.

HOW DO I KNOW WHAT SERVICE TO CHOOSE?

If you are unsure about what to book for, Maayan or her assistant are available for consultation via text or e-mail. For over the phone consults, clear pictures showing your current hair and your desired hair are requested. In person consultations are also available.

WILL MY HAIR BE DAMAGED BY THE COLORING PROCESS?

Getting your hair colored is chemical process. The very nature of it changes your hair composition. Depending on the desired result and your hair history, the hair may be weakened. You will have to care for and maintain your hair differently once it has been colored. Maayan takes care to ensure that your hair will not be pushed past its limits. If she believes your hair can not withstand the process, she will recommend against it.

WHERE ARE YOU LOCATED?

Maayan is the owner of Mycelium Salon in Rockville, MD. Her schedule is Wednesday - Saturday starting her first appointment at 9:00 a.m. If you’d like to book with her, you can TEXT (202) 855-8858, or email maayanbirnstein@gmail.com

I BOX DYED MY HAIR, BUT WANT TO BE BLONDE. IS IT POSSIBLE?

Box dye is difficult to remove from hair. If you have colored it dark with box dye in the past 5 years, it is still in there. The only way to remove it completely is to let it grow and cut it. However, with the correct product and a lot patience and understanding, it may be possible to remove. Box dye removal is considered a color correction. It may take several sessions to achieve blonde, and in some cases it may not lift enough. Clients going in to this type of service must understand that hair is unpredictable and we do not always how know it will react to the bleaching process until we begin. Maayan does not push the hair past its breaking point. She will do two rounds of lightening per session if she feels the hair can withstand the process. If the hair does not lift enough for blonde after one session, she will tone accordingly. At least 2 weeks is recommended between sessions.

WHAT SHOULD I DO BEFORE MY APPOINTMENT?

If you are coming in for an all over blonde service, or a root touch up double process, it is best not to wash your hair for a few days. This is to insure your comfort level, because we will be doing on scalp lightening. More natural oils in your hair will protect your scalp. For other services, it is okay to wash your hair prior.
